We are called to be peacemakers, servants to all!
. . . We are the Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. John the Baptist. Our ancestors arrived in the United States in 1844 from Bavaria and in 1929 from Slovakia to minister to the needs of the German and Slovak speaking people of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Soon after their arrival they realized that, like Francis, they too had a broader mission in the world and opened their ministry to all people regardless of ethnic origin.
. . . As Franciscans we live in a community of brothers. We minister in many ways as pastors, preachers of the Word of God, counselors, confessors, compassionate listeners, retreat directors, visitors of the sick and as ministers of hospitality. We seek to be wherever there is a call that we can answer. We reach out to share in the human and spiritual needs of all.
. . . But no matter where our ministries may take us during the day, we gather for prayer, meals, and to share time as brothers. Being Franciscans we learn from Saints Francis and Clare how important it is for us to love each other in Christ Jesus Our Lord.
. . . Francis and Clare were a catalyst for change in the 13th Century. Together they set the world on fire with their love for God. We are attempting to live out their visions and dreams for a world that is centered on the God who became human.
. . . Joining with other brothers and sisters, we ask you also to join us as we walk in the Gospel footsteps of Christ Jesus. At times we do not know where the road is taking us, but we walk knowing that we are on the road of hope. Let us strive to rebuild the church as followers of the Francis, the poor man of Assisi.
Lord God enlighten my mind to do Your holy will!
