January 30, 2017: “LET’S MAKE IT SIMPLE; PLAIN TALK ABOUT GOD AND US”

God tried to simplify and support us on our life journey here on earth when He revealed Himself to
us in His Son Jesus. But we still didn’t seem to “get it.” In our effort to save and promote and protect
ourselves we complicated the Gospel message and beclouded the common ground of our life together
in God, our very humanity. Maybe we can try to begin again this year with a renewed perspective on who we are and who God made us to be. Presenter: Fr. Dennet Jung, O.F.M.

February 20, 2017: “WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? “FILLING THE EMPTINESS”

At times we are “filled up” with aches and pains, stress and fatigue, and yet hurting because of the “emptiness” inside of us. A contradiction, or is it a corresponding complaint? In this evening’s reflections we will try to deal with this vicious circle of our lives in which we often find ourselves.
Presenters: Carol Herman and Nina Corona

March 13, 2017: “NAMING AND CLAIMING OUR ANGER”

Our emotions sometimes move us to anger---at ourselves, at our society,
our families, the Church, and even at God. With some tears and guilt feelings
we can admit this, but to find healing and acceptance we need to face these
feelings head-on and truthfully. Then we can work through them with patience
and perseverance. Presenters: Laura Long and Jeannie Panella

April 10, 2017: “WHERE IS OUR HUMOR? HAVE WE LOST IT?”

The word “humor” comes from the same Latin root word as “humanity” and “human.”
“Humus” is the Latin word that is translated as soil, dirt, ground, etc. We are grounded in
humanity and that should provide us with a sense of humor if only to remind us that when
we try to “play” God, we are as funny as our first parents, Adam and Eve, when they reached
for and ate that piece of fruit. Keep a sense of humor and live as children of God.
Presenter: Jeanne Hunt

September 18, 2017: “DARING TO BE DIFFERENT: DARING TO BE OURSELVES”

Isn’t it true that we compete with others and compare ourselves with others? To what end? God made
us to be who we are; that was good enough for God, so why isn’t it good enough for us? Becoming
our best selves is what God asks us to do, even if that means being different from what others expect
us to be. Do we dare do that? Presenter: Dr. Carmina Chapp

October 16, 2017: “FEASTING ON THE SPIRITUAL LIFE”

We humans beings are flesh and spirit and we need to be nourished bodily and spiritually. Just as we are concerned about eating nutritious food at the dinner table, so we need to have a concern for feeding our life in the spirit. The many spiritual foods that can be life-giving for us and nourish us for a wholesome and fulfilling life will be presented at this mini-retreat. Presenter: Bishop John Barres, Allentown, Pa.

November 20, 2017: “BECOMING HEALERS AND HOPE-GIVERS”

When Jesus sent out his disciples to continue His mission of proclaiming the Good News, He told
them to teach, and bring healing and peace to all who would listen. This is the mission we receive
at Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The whole human family cries out for hope, healing, and
peace, and when we offer these gifts, paradoxically, we receive them in return.
Presenters: Diane Rice and Karen Reeseman

December 11, 2017: “ENJOYING LIFE: THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS”

Someone once said that the best way to show thanks to God is to enjoy the gift of life that He gives
us. If we do not “enter into the joy” of life, we miss out on a lot of goodness, beauty, truth, and
happiness. Our mini-retreat this month seeks to help us see and experience the joy that is ours when
we enter fully into the life God gives us, especially in the Incarnation of
His Son Jesus. Come and enjoy the spirit of Christmas!
